In September 2023, a brutal storm that dropped as much as 8.7 inches of rain over a 24-hour period flooded the Prospect Park Zoo to unimaginable heights. The flooding caused severe damage to the Zoo, including flooding the boiler room with about 25 feet of water. Thankfully, none of the animals were injured during the storm, but the damage to the Zoo was immense.
Since September, the Zoo has been working diligently to make the necessary repairs to reopen. With Memorial Day around the corner, the Zoo has announced that they will be opening their doors to the public again on Saturday, May 25!
